Haven

This week, my senior thesis show opened. I created a book of my work, as well as putting some of my prints on the wall. Here she is:

To combat the chaos in my mind, I seek to find the the quiet moments in my environment.
Haven is a series of photographs that signify times of calm and solitude. Time is one of
strongest forces in my life, and as such, the times at which these photographs were taken is
significant to their meaning. I do not go out searching for quiet moments, but rather allow them
to find me and steady me when the world is spinning too fast.

"Quiet is here and all in me." -Richard Matheson

Travels

I'm still in the process of sorting through and editing the gazillion photos I took during my month in Europe. I want to post them in an intelligible order, so I'm waiting til everything's done to post. It was lousy that I was so busy immediately after getting back to the states because I had zero lag time to focus exclusively on photos.
So, in the meantime, I'm sharing my cousin's website. He's a surfer and photographer and he's currently in Indonesia doing both of those things. In my humble opinion, he's brilliant.

      Suburbia

It's always strange to go home after spending a great deal of time in Worcester. A bit unnerving. I've taken to walking and photographing whenever possible. It's a cute little town, ripe with photographic possibilities.

      Lauren's house

My best friend recently moved into a house that used to be her grandparents'. As they had lived there so long, the basement, which was her grandfather's workshop, had accumulated quite a bit of clutter. The basement was mostly filled with old tools, jars of nails, and the like, but there were also tons of relics of Mr. Duffy's military days and family milestones. Practically everything was wooden, rusty, and/or had an expiration date from 40 years ago. It felt like a total time warp.
As soon as I walked down the stairs, I was overwhelmed with how gorgeous the light was, sprinted back upstairs, grabbed my cameras, and got snapping. I went over to help her clean out the basement, but I mostly just took pictures. These are scanned negatives from some way expired film, shot on a Rollei XF 35.

      brb

So, this blog is about to temporarily change from my photo blog to my travel photo blog. A week from tomorrow, I fly out of Boston to spend a month in Luxembourg. I'm planning on travelling to Brussels, Amsterdam, and perhaps somewhere in Germany or Paris while I'm there. I can't wait! So many photos to come :D

I recently published a book of the project I've been working on through Blurb. The project is far from done, I think, but I like where it's heading. I set out to capture people just being people. I wanted to find moments of truth in the people who surround me. These people are all important in my life.
